ANKARA Governor of Turkey's Trabzon Province Adil Yazar in a joint press conference on Thursday with governor general of Iran's East Azarbaijan Province Yahya Mohammadzadeh called for expansion of commercial and industrial cooperation between the two provinces.

According to a report by IRNA, Yazar also called for further boosting communication links between the two countries.

Given their industrial and historical features, he said, the cities of Trabzon in Turkey and Tabriz of Iran both play a significant role in consolidating ties between Iran and Turkey.

Referring to his visit to Tabriz last month and signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two provinces, Yazar said the MOU has brought significant achievements for both countries.

Mohammadzadeh referred to the excellent status of Tabriz and Trabzon in consolidating bilateral ties, and said it is over a century that Iran established its diplomatic mission in Trabzon and this demonstrates the importance and role of that city in upgrading ties between Iran and Turkey.

During the visit, the Turkish official will inspect Iran's exclusive fair in Tabriz and discuss avenues leading to expansion of commercial, economic, customs, road transportation and port facilities in Jolfa of Iran and Trabzon.

The Iranian governor general's visit is taking place at the official invitation of his Turkish counterpart and is aimed at broadening economic as well as border trade between Iran and Turkey.
